Spring in Hangzhou

Spring in Hangzhou, May 2011

I had two larger blank canvases left which I thought I had better paint and sell before I move to Africa because I don’t want to take them with me. A theme I have been wanting to do for a while now is Spring. Hangzhou is seriously the BEST place to be in spring. The flowers are incredible as they are everywhere throughout the city, even on the freeways! Of course the most stunning place to see the blossoms are around the lake. I normally paint in brighter colours but this time I have tried pastel colours painted in a slightly Impressionist way. The colours are actually really calming. The view of the city in the distance past the blossoms and the lake is a very common sight here in Hangzhou. I am really hoping other people who live here feel that way about this piece. The colours in the painting actually look better in real life.
